Peak District Wildlife Is Thriving

Conditions for wildlife in the Peak District are improving rapidly according ecology experts.

That is the conclusion of the recently published review of the Peak District Bio-diversity Action Plan.

The key points identified are:
· Improved condition of Peak District SSIs Sites of Scientific Interest
· Lapwing, curlew and water vole populations are doing well.
· Moorland restoration is proceeding rapidly and is helping in the fight against climate change

On the downside, Derbyshire’s white-clawed crayfish were decimated by disease in 2005. Natural England are trying to re-introduce the species in Lathkill Dale.
