Turbine Trouble Blows Into Carsington - Update 25th March 2007

A planning application to erect four, 102 metre high giant wind turbines near Carsington Pastures in the Peak District has been lodged by a company called Carsington Wind Energy Ltd.

This represents a real threat to the landscape of the Peak District as early applications are likely to be the thin end of the wedge. The industrialisation of the landscape is a real threat with views for walker’s and tourists likely despoiled by a network of turbines. The site for proposed site sits just outside the national park boundary, but the views from within the park would be blighted.

Interestingly wind power developments receive government subsidies, even though attempts to reduce power consumption and emissions have so far been pitiful. Try using the Peak District’s infrequent public transport system for an example of how weak efforts have been so far.

Lets hope Derbyshire Dales District Council see sense and refuse the planning permission when they make a decision in June.

We will keep you informed of further developments in the story.

UPDATE 25th March Derbyshire Dales District Council has extended the period for consultation indefinitely on the outragous planning application to put wind turbines on sensitive land close to the National Park.
